NAFA’s annual conference, the Institute & Expo (I&E), is founded on the mission to educate, inform, and prepare. This year’s conference takes place in Austin, Texas, April 19-22 and has a full roster of education sessions to achieve those goals, including the standout session “Safety and the Generation Gap.”
Distracted driving has emerged as one of the most critical road safety concerns in this era. The workplace is experiencing a collision between individuals that, at one time, would have thought mobile phones unimaginable, and so-called “digital natives” — workers who have never known a time without the Internet and associated equipment.
While some drivers will have the constant temptation to operate devices while driving, others may have equally risky analog distractions to contend with. It will be up to the fleet manager to communicate to both extremes in a fair and precise way. When it comes to driver safety, lives can be on the line, an organization’s reputation can be jeopardized, and much of this is preventable through policy and diligence.
How does one’s generation play into how safe they are behind the wheel? In this session, which takes place on Tuesday April 19, experts will explore how various generations view distractions behind the wheel and how these impact their ability to arrive safely.
“The fleet profession is constantly changing, just as the automotive world changes. The technology changes, the best practices adapt, fuel types and availability remain imperative and volatile topics, and NAFA’s I&E is positioned to bring attendees up-to-speed on all of it,” said NAFA Chief Executive Officer Phillip E. Russo, CAE. “The I&E’s reputation as ‘the event of the year for fleet professionals’ is solidly backed by what’s now and what’s next in fleet.”
“Safety and the Generation Gap” will teach attendees how to understand the various distractions members of each generation are prone to. Fleet professionals will learn how to tailor driver training and communication for members of each generation, and how to craft a solid fleet safety program and policy that speaks to each generation.
This is just a sample of the four days of education to be found at NAFA’s Institute & Expo which attracts thousands of fleet professionals from throughout the world for four days of education, networking, and motivation to bring back to the office.
“NAFA is confident that attendees will be impressed by what they find at this year’s conference,” concluded Russo. “And, what’s more, they will be bringing this transformative information back to their organizations to make substantive changes and improvements.”
