Volkswagen is hoping to up the ante on corporate average fuel economy targets and has set the lofty goal of reaching nearly 60 mpg in Europe by 2020. It comes from standards set in the European Parliament, which has set emissions limits, rather than fuel economy targets – tightening standards every few years to reduce CO2 and other emissions.
