While not as visible in the alternative fuel vehicle sector as natural gas vehicles, propane autogas played a larger role at this year’s ACT Expo than last year. Fleets are looking at a longer list of available propane-powered products and fueling systems. Propane autogas is 30% cleaner than gasoline and powers more than 18 million vehicles globally. And because 98% of the U.S. autogas supply is made in America, U.S. fleets that run on autogas are also doing their part to enhance national energy security. “Businesses and municipalities are increasingly struggling with high gasoline prices, and propane autogas is an affordable, clean, American-made fuel that enables fleets to save on fuel costs right away,” said Darren Engle of Blue Star Gas, who is also chairman of the Propane Education and Research Council’s Research and Technology Development Working Group.
Blue Star Gas displayed an autogas-powered Ford Expedition as part of the PERC booth. On a panel titled, “Integration of Alternative Fuel Refueling Infrastructure into the Existing Retail Environment,” Engle’s presentation, “You’ve Got Options: Filling Up with the World’s Most Popular Alternative Fuel,” gave an overview of autogas infrastructure and outlined affordable fueling options for fleets.
