Lifecycle and Strategy

By Mark Hogland, President, Moventum Fleet Management

Organizations that consistently build strong fleet programs don’t simply react. They establish a clear strategy.

At Moventum, we view that as the first stage of the fleet lifecycle: Advise.

Every decision that follows is stronger when it’s built on a solid strategic foundation.

When fleet strategy stays connected to business strategy, organizations are better positioned to make informed decisions.

Continuous Damage Tracking

By Neeraj Pal, Growth Manager, Inspektlabs

The gap between when damage occurs and when it is recorded has become an expensive problem.

Fleets have already moved from reactive repairs to proactive, predictive maintenance, and condition tracking is the natural next step in that shift.

A periodic inspection treats a condition as a status to check on a set date.

Continuous tracking monitors the condition as as it changes over time and records it.

Right-to-Repair

By Ed Pierce, Fleet Management Weekly

The debate over “Right-to-Repair” has again moved into the spotlight following congressional action on H.R. 7389.

For consumers, the debate has entered on a familiar question: Who should have the right to repair my vehicle?

Fleet operators should view the legislation through a broader business lens.

If access to connected-vehicle data becomes increasingly proprietary, fleet operators could face several long-term challenges.

Drivers are Switching to Regular Gas as Premium Prices Remain High, Manufacturer Recommendations Be Damned

As the delta between regular and premium gas prices continues to grow, more and more car owners are forgoing higher-octane fuel for regular 87.

Data shows that daily sales of premium gas were down about 5% by volume compared to the average from February, just before the war.

During the same period, mid-grade sales were down 2% and regular gas sales were up just about 10%. This data apparently matches a broader trend in which drivers have stopped purchasing higher-grade gasoline since the start of the war.

AI Cameras Read 20 Billion License Plates a Month. Now Cities are Turning On Them

Across America, residents, elected officials, and even entire city councils are increasingly pushing back against AI-powered camera networks that record passing vehicles and store vast amounts of data about where they travel.

Critics argue that collecting information on every vehicle creates a form of mass surveillance, even if courts have generally ruled that license plate readers do not violate Fourth Amendment protections.

Journalists have found completely unprotected camera units and shown how anyone could gather data on specific individuals with that access.

NHTSA Reminds Drivers that Speeding Catches Up with You

The NHTSA launched its Speeding Catches Up with You campaign to educate Americans on the deadly consequences of speeding, which contributes to more than 10,000 deaths a year on our nation’s roads.

New early estimates for 2025 released today by NHTSA project an 11% decline in speeding-related fatalities with an estimated 10,035 deaths. While this total represents a return to pre-pandemic numbers last seen in 2019, the crisis still remains.

“Unless you’re a racecar driver on the track, there’s no excuse for speeding. Speeding puts everyone’s lives at risk, making crashes more severe and less survivable,” said NHTSA Administrator Jonathan Morrison.

The Grid Was Melting Down in Last Week’s Heat – Until EVs Came to the Rescue

School may be out for summer, but the electric school buses shuttling kids around are still hard at work, shoring up America’s electric grid just as a crippling heat dome threatened to push it to its limits.

The World Resources Institute’s (WRI) Electric School Bus Initiative reports that a number of fully deployed vehicle-to-grid (V2G) projects involving some 230 electric school buses are now able to supply 8 MWh of power back to the grid at any given time

California currently leads the US in developing and adopting V2G school bus technology.

InsureVision

By Ed Pierce, Fleet Management Weekly

Fleet dashcams have become nearly ubiquitous. They record collisions, exonerate drivers, support coaching programs, and provide critical evidence when claims arise.

Yet most fleets still learn about many crashes from a phone call long after the incident occurs. That delay carries a significant cost.

A new AI platform developed by InsureVision aims to change that equation by transforming dashcam footage into an active source of crash intelligence.
