Motus released its State of Corporate Driving in America: 2025 Benchmark Report, the first edition of an annual study focusing on the preferences and productivity of the country’s field teams.

The findings point to diverging impacts between fleet and reimbursement models, revealing significant performance gaps that affect both employee satisfaction and business outcomes.

“The 2025 Benchmark Report makes two things clear: The era of the company car is coming to an end, and one-size-fits-all reimbursement programs consistently underdeliver compared to flexible alternatives,” said Phong Nguyen, CEO of Motus.

Fleet Marketing

By Ed Pierce, Editor, Fleet Management Weekly

The social media landscape for B2B businesses, including fleet management solution providers, has dramatically changed in 2025. Platforms that once provided reliable organic reach now require new strategies, greater focus, and genuine engagement.

For fleet industry marketers, understanding these changing trends is essential for building trust, generating leads, and staying competitive in this swiftly evolving market.

To succeed in 2025, fleet product and service providers must move beyond broad, impersonal posting and embrace a focused, authentic, and proactive social media strategy. Engage directly with your target audience, measure your impact, and be ready to adapt as the social landscape continues to evolve.

Hertz AI Complaints are Spreading Faster Than the Damage it Flags

Most of the time, when a rental car company lands in the news, it’s for something fairly routine. But lately, Hertz has been making headlines for a less flattering reason: customers are pushing back over charges for minor vehicle damage.

At the center of the controversy is Hertz’s new AI-powered damage detection system. Some renters say they’re being billed for damage so minor it’s barely visible, and getting answers hasn’t been easy.

Hertz seemingly sorted out the expensive scanning tool and AI software before figuring out how to communicate with customers about it. Multiple customers have complained about how tough it is to discuss damage concerns with Hertz.

One U.S. State May Start Billing Drivers By The Mile

For residents of one state, the cost of car ownership may be far greater than the mere purchase price. Massachusetts may soon track how much you drive and charge accordingly if the new Freedom To Move Act is passed, and it’s causing quite the controversy.

The bill is currently under discussion at the Massachusetts State House, where critics of the new law say it is about control and limiting transportation.

But Democrat Senate Majority Leader Cynthia Creem says otherwise: “This bill does not do that. This bill doesn’t impose restrictions on how much Massachusetts residents can drive nor where they can drive. It doesn’t include fines, penalties, taxes on personal vehicle use.”

Automakers Are Pushing Hard to Sell EVs Before Tax Credit Expires

The federal tax credit, totaling a $7,500 incentive to buy an electric vehicle, is being killed by the Trump administration on September 30. As a result, automakers are making sure they urge customers to snap up an EV, according to Reuters.

On its website, Tesla has a banner saying “$7,500 Federal Tax Credit Ending. Take Delivery by September 30, 2025.” Ford is extending its deal on a free home charger with installation.

Analysts predict there will be a bump leading up to the end of the EV tax credit, then a steep drop-off.

New-Vehicle Affordability Sees Modest Rebound in June After Tariff-Driven Decline

New-vehicle affordability improved slightly in June, reversing some of the deterioration following the announcement of new tariffs, according to the Cox Automotive/Moody’s Analytics Vehicle Affordability Index.

“Tariffs remain a major headwind for vehicle affordability,” said Cox Automotive Chief Economist Jonathan Smoke. “Even with some trade relief, the added cost – up to $5,700 per imported vehicle – hits the most affordable models hardest, limiting options for price-sensitive buyers. We are in the early stages of seeing how manufacturers deal with these added costs, but we do not believe that the American consumer can absorb it all.”

A year ago, prices were 1.2% lower, but interest rates were higher. Incomes and incentives were also lower in June 2024.

Crash-Free Culture

By eDriving

Preventing crashes isn’t just about installing new technology or enforcing compliance. It’s about reshaping how your organization thinks about driving. At eDriving, we call this a Crash-Free Culture®. It’s the focus of our new white paper, “The Road to Driver Safety.”

A crash-free culture is one in which driver safety becomes a shared value, championed from the C-suite to the cab. It makes safe driving second nature — not just an obligation.

A crash-free culture doesn’t happen by accident. It’s built intentionally on five key elements that work together to shape behavior, build accountability, and create long-term impact.
