Facing almost $100M in annual costs for vehicle redesign, automakers are pushing to weaken the government’s 2005 proposal for tougher roof crush standards. The NHTSA proposed increasing roof strength standards to 2 1/2 times the vehicle weight while the auto industry wants more forgiving roof strength test criteria.
