Cash for Clunkers was a rousing success for politicians and new car dealers who have received their checks from the government. Now that the program is over, the unintended consequences are beginning to surface. The program forced dealers to crush perfectly good cars, creating a used car price bubble. New car inventories and donations of vehicles to charities are both down. September new car sales are expected to take a dive. And aftermarket repair shops will see rising prices for replacement parts.
