GE Capital Working with Mobileye for Collision Risk Reduction, CALSTART Hired by Army to Test Li-ion in Commercial Trucks, Propane Prominent at Government Fleet Expo

GE Capital Fleet Services Working with Mobileye on Collision Avoidance
GE Capital Fleet Services has an agreement that will give its truck fleet customers access to the Mobileye collision avoidance system. The only NHTSA-compliant system of its type, Mobileye enhances driver safety, helps to reduce the risk of collisions and helps improve Compliance, Safety & Accountability (CSA) scores. Mobileye notifies drivers of potential accidents by alerting them to impending collisions with cars, trucks, motorcyclists, bicyclists and pedestrians, when making an unintended lane departure, and when following the preceding vehicle too closely. Additionally, Mobileye’s proprietary Traffic Sign Recognition alerts drivers to speed limit violations, reducing the likelihood of speeding tickets. Learn more.

US Army Contracts with CALSTART for Li-ion Battery Testing
The US Army has awarded CALSTART a contract to test 12-volt lithium-ion (li-ion) batteries in commercial trucks. Using lithium chemistry in starter batteries could enable cost and fuel savings and greater electrification of trucks going forward. This is the first time the military 6T configuration–a standard military form factor used in a wide variety of applications–of Li-Ion batteries will be tested in commercial trucks. Understanding the broader uses of batteries in commercial trucks–including hotel loads, idle reduction and other auxiliary power–can lead to improved energy efficiency and reduced dependence on oil. Propane-Powered Vehicles Displayed at 2013 Government Fleet Expo
Public sector fleet managers saw the latest propane-autogas-powered vehicles at the 2013 Government Fleet Expo (GFX), this week at the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center in San Antonio. GFX gives fleet managers the opportunity to learn how they can save on fuel and reduce emissions by incorporating propane-powered vehicles and mowers across their operations. Visitors to the Propane Education & Research Council booth checked out propane-powered vehicles such as the 2012 Chevy Tahoe from Williamson County EMS provided by CleanFuel USA. Williamson County currently operates 36 propane autogas vehicles across nine county departments. The county estimates it saves $73,000 annually on fuel costs.  Learn more.
