Major India-based automaker Tata Motors, best known in the US for its $2,500 Tata Nano tiny car, has launched six heavy trucks in its commercial vehicle business unit. The company also introduced a telematics and fleet management service, Tata FleetMan Telematics Services, which is targeted at commercial vehicle fleet owners and consigners of goods.
Fleet managers are offered telematics solutions such as fuel management, driver management, and remote diagnostics. It’s being introduced first as part of its tractor/trailer launches, but will be available on the entire Tata Motors medium and heavy-duty lineup in the months ahead.
Tata’s trucks have been designed and built specifically to offer the lowest total cost of ownership (TCO), best-in-class fuel efficiency, longer service runs, and enhanced levels of driver comfort. The trucks include the first 37-ton, 5-axle truck in India, the Tata LPT 3723 in the 10×4 configuration, and two new engine capacities in the Prima range at 380 hp and 230 hp.
In related news, Tata recently displayed 13 passenger and commercial vehicles at the Indonesia International Motor Show. Tata recently announced its introduction into the Indonesia auto market and will start local assembly next year, along with establishing a network of 60 dealers for sales, service, and spare part supplies.
Compressed natural gas vehicles have been among the display vehicles in Indonesia. A special green pavilion has been set up at the show to showcase Tata Nano CNG Concept, Tata Ace CNG, Tata Xenon CNG, and Tata Magic CNG.
