The Year Ahead

Geotab Inc., a global leader in connected vehicles and asset management solutions, released its 2026 industry predictions.

The forecasts focus on the immediate need for businesses to integrate high-integrity data and AI into their core operations to find critical productivity gains and remain competitive in an economy defined by tight margins.

“Treating AI as an operational partner, powered by reliable data, is what will separate the leaders from the laggards in an increasingly complex environment,” said Neil Cawse, Founder and CEO of Geotab.

Geotab’s forecast underscores that the real competitive advantage will belong to those who treat these technologies as an operational partner, rather than a separate tool. For fleets, this means adapting swiftly to modernization.

U.S. Transportation Infrastructure 2026 Outlook Is Stable Despite Tariff Ambiguity And Rising Costs

Global Ratings’ view of business conditions and credit quality across the U.S. not-for-profit transportation infrastructure enterprise (TIE) sector for 2026 is stable, according to “U.S. Not-For-Profit Transportation Infrastructure 2026 Outlook: Green Lights Ahead Despite Tariff Ambiguity And Growing Capital Programs,” published today.

We believe activity levels across most modes of transportation will continue to steadily increase from 2026-2027, with average annual growth of 1.6% for enplanements, 4.5% for transit ridership, 2.4% for port containers, and 3.0% for tolled transactions.

“We expect the TIE sector will largely demonstrate continued resilience amid federal policy shifts and ambiguity related to tariffs, changing transportation funding and grant priorities, and the spend-down of federal support by transit operators,” said S&P Global Ratings credit analyst Kurt Forsgren.

The five lowest-scoring automakers are all U.S. brands. They are Chrysler, GMC, Jeep, Ram, and Rivian. Ford had a strong showing, landing at rank 11. The average score of a U.S. automaker is 41 out of 100. German automakers average 50 out of 100. Asian-based automakers lead with an average of 56 out of 100.

New York Wants to Pull the Plug on Annoying In-Car Subscriptions — But Loopholes Remain

Automakers have spent the last few years imagining a future where every car comes fully loaded — heated seats, advanced driver assistance, even extra horsepower — and drivers unlock features through monthly payments.

Investors loved the idea. Drivers didn’t. Now, New York lawmakers are stepping in.

A new bill, which has cleared both chambers of the state legislature, would make it illegal for automakers and dealers to charge subscription fees for features that rely on hardware already installed in the car at purchase. That means no more paywalls for heated seats or different “tiers” of your factory sound system. Violations could trigger fines of up to $250 per sale.

DHL Takes Delivery of its First Tesla Semi Electric Truck, Says More to Come Next Year

The Tesla Semi program is gaining momentum with another major logistics player officially joining the fleet. German logistics giant DHL confirmed that it has taken delivery of its first Tesla Semi.

For a long time, PepsiCo was the only company operating the Tesla Semi in any meaningful volume outside of the automaker itself. But as we move closer to volume production in Nevada, we are seeing more units land in the hands of major customers like Walmart, Costco, and Sysco.

In a press release issued last week, the logistics giant confirmed the delivery of its first all-electric Tesla Semi to be integrated into its US operations.

People Matter

By Steve Bender, President and Owner, Fleet Street Remarketing

In the time since I wrote my last end of year message, this past year has taught me what matters most. My Family. My Friends. My Colleagues. And equally as much, the professional relationships I’ve spent decades forging in this great industry we all love.

When I look at the common denominator, one thing stands out about this industry above all else – People. People are what really matters most in fleet. People and relationships.

Perhaps more than in any other industry, fleet is a business of relationships. Big enough to feel like the important sector of American business that it truly is. Small enough to where seemingly everyone is on a first name basis.

Mentorship

By Anna Stanke, Director Fleet Remarketing and Products, Union Leasing

At Used Car Week 2025, I had the opportunity to join an amazing group of women on the Women in Remarketing Panel. Being part of that conversation reminded me just how important mentorship has been throughout my career.

When I started in remarketing, there were very few women in the industry. It often felt difficult to break through or be heard, and women were frequently associated with administrative roles rather than operational or leadership roles.

Today, I’m proud to lead a full female remarketing team at Union Leasing, a group with over two decades of combined experience that is doing an exceptional job.

Fleet Fraud

By Fleet Management Weekly Staff

One shocking truth about fraud today is that you’re losing 5 to 20 cents of every dollar spent on your fleet’s operations to internal theft, external skimming, and misallocation. That’s not an accident – it’s the built-in vulnerability of open-loop payment systems.

We spoke with William Fitzgerald, vice president of anti-financial crimes at WEX, a leading provider of payment solutions, where he oversees the development and implementation of fraud strategies and policies.

He is more than qualified for the responsibility, with over twenty years experience leading fraud operations and incident response teams in various industries, including financial services, payment cards, and tax products.
