NEVI’s disrupted rollout combined with the rollback of federal EV incentives under OBBB are forcing companies with electric vehicle (EV) fleets to rapidly adapt their infrastructure strategies.
As a result, we are beginning to see a clear and accelerating shift toward behind-the-fence installations. These are private, on-site charging solutions located at fleet depots, warehouses, and logistics hubs.
Yet even depot charging has its limits, especially for companies with dynamic routes, multi-region operations, or limited access to high-capacity grid connections. That’s where off grid charging solutions are gaining traction.
Public infrastructure still has a role to play. In the post-OBBB environment, it will likely serve as a secondary or backup layer, not the primary charging strategy for fleet operators.

In this edition of Fleet Pro Focus, we take a step back from focusing on some of the veterans of the fleet space and speak with a relative newcomer, Nathan Reid, the CEO of transporter uShip.
uShip is an Austin, Texas based company that helps fleets ship vehicles and basically anything they need to ship. They have also been an AFLA conference platinum sponsor the last two years,
Reid has been encouraged by fleet’s response to his company’s flexible and cost-effective offering, which makes it fast and easy for fleets and fleet management companies to manage the entire transportation lifecycle for vehicles and other assets.
“I’ve had invaluable mentors in my life… When it comes to the fleet space, we’re still new and those relationships are just getting seeded. I’m always eager to meet people I can learn from and offer that same opportunity to others wherever I can help.”

By Joan Benore, Vice President, Benore Logistic Systems
The logistics industry is facing a continuous challenge: a huge labor shortage is making it increasingly difficult to meet timelines and demand and build a resilient, long-term workforce.
To move forward, the industry must attract a new generation of drivers. As fleets modernize, companies are rethinking who’s behind the wheel as they try to build their fleet of drivers.
Electric vehicle (EV) trucking comes with new tools, training, and routines, so the industry needs drivers who are willing to meet this challenge. The shift is as cultural as it is mechanical. Younger CDL drivers are often more open to this change.
It’s critical to show potential new hires that your company values their time, effort, and well-being. Consider your potential employee’s position and help them feel confident that a job will give them just as much as they give to it.
