Safety in Winter Weather

(photo: Chis Hayes, Assistant Vice President of Auto and Workers Compensation Risk Control for Travelers)

By Fleet Management Weekly Staff

Several factors can imperil a driver’s safety, from distracted driving to poor weather conditions. For example, winter often leads to a massive uptick in car accidents, as drivers are forced to navigate reduced visibility and road traction.

We spoke with Chris Hayes, Assistant Vice President of Auto and Workers Compensation Risk Control for Travelers, to learn more about how drivers can stay safe in winter weather.

“The combination of distracted driving and hazardous weather is certainly something we don’t look forward to in the insurance community. If you think about all the conversations around distracted driving, they’re about your ability to react to sudden changes around you.”

Ford Informed Suppliers the Next-Generation F-150 Would Be Delayed

The 2027 Ford F-150 was expected to shine on the showroom floors starting in 2027, which meant a late reveal in 2026 or an early one the following year. However, the automaker has just done a one-eighty and decided to push back the launch date by at least one year or even to mid-2028.

For the past decades, the arrival of a refreshed Ford F-150 has been pretty easy to predict. The automaker got customers accustomed to a change every six years, with a refresh mid-way. Introduced back in 1975 to slot between the F-100 and the F-250, the most popular model of the F-Series is currently in its 14th generation. It has been on the market since 2021, following a June 2020 reveal.

Tesla Full Self-Driving Could Be China’s Tariff Bargaining Chip

When the controversial CEO of a global automaker becomes the Best-Friend-in-Chief and helps to define national policy, there might be some bleed-over into conflicts of interest. It seems that China may be betting on exactly that.

Tesla’s Full Self-Driving software has been walking a tightrope in China. With tough-to-solve problems on the road and regulatory hurdles a-plenty, Tesla is anxiously awaiting the greenlight from Chinese regulators to begin testing out its flagship software. But there’s just one issue: China could be preparing to use the approval of FSD as a bargaining chip in the escalating U.S.-China trade war.

Trump Moves to Overturn California’s Emission Laws

The battle over the future of gas-powered cars in the U.S. is heating up again. President Trump’s new Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) chief, Lee Zeldin, has begun reviewing California’s pollution waivers—waivers that allowed the state to effectively ban new internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles by 2035.

“We will submit it to Congress [who] will have the opportunity, through the Congressional Review Act, to make that waiver go away,” Zeldin said on Friday, standing alongside President Trump. “We will do everything in our part to help the American people to make life in America more affordable.”

Stopping Whiplash Will Be Crash Testing’s Next Big Thing

It’s 2025, and head and brain injuries are still a developing field. There’s more that we don’t know, than there is that we know, and this could wind up being the next stage in the development of automotive safety, but the IIHS isn’t quite there just yet.

The Insurance Institute has been running some tests using the Diffuse Axonal Multi-Axis General Evaluation (DAMAGE) and Head Injury Criterion (HIC) formulas.

We could be seeing more extensive head injury ratings being added to the non-profit’s crash test scorecard in the near future, specifically as the risk pertains to rotational head injuries, that is, whiplash.

Remarketing

By Steve Bender, President/Owner, Fleet Street Remarketing

If you missed it the first time around, our Fleet Street team produced a 6-episode YouTube mini-series that found me and my lifelong buddy, world renowned treasure hunter, Darrell Miklos trekking across the globe following a treasure map.

If we reach all 6 destinations on the map, Darrell and I will break an ancient curse that’s been put on fleets. If we fail, our beloved clients and industry are doomed to a future of minimal returns and mountains of hassles. Truly – a lot at stake!

And while we think you’ll enjoy the whacky nature and big reveal at the end of the series, the real star of our story are the guiding principles that we employ here every day at Fleet Street to offer our customers the best remarketing experience in the industry.

Customer Driven

By Laura Jozwiak, Chief Client Officer, Wheels

Excellent customer service begins with exceptional leadership—leaders who place mirrors around people, allowing them to see their reflections and discover their inner strengths and talents.

This approach fosters lasting confidence and creates a nurturing environment where individuals can thrive and deliver extraordinary customer service.

I have personally experienced the power of a customer-driven leader. Years ago, a leader in my life held up a mirror for me—allowing me to see my potential, even when I couldn’t yet believe in it myself. That moment changed everything.

AI

By Ian Gardner, CEO, EVAI

AI outpaces any foundational innovation before it and no industry will remain untouched. Legacy companies, built on human-driven efficiencies over decades, are now confronted with digital tools that can rewrite the playbook overnight.

Industries that have historically lagged in tech adoption, such as commercial transportation and fleet management, are particularly vulnerable as AI-powered disruptors reinvent entire sectors of the economy.

The fleets of the future will be more than electric, autonomous, or connected. They will be AI-optimized, AI-managed, and AI-driven, achieving previously unimaginable levels of efficiency and profitability.
