
It’s 2025, and head and brain injuries are still a developing field. There’s more that we don’t know, than there is that we know, and this could wind up being the next stage in the development of automotive safety, but the IIHS isn’t quite there just yet.
The Insurance Institute has been running some tests using the Diffuse Axonal Multi-Axis General Evaluation (DAMAGE) and Head Injury Criterion (HIC) formulas. We could be seeing more extensive head injury ratings being added to the non-profit’s crash test scorecard in the near future, specifically as the risk pertains to rotational head injuries, that is, whiplash.
