In The Fleet Poll this week, sponsored by our friends at FLD, Joe Lukacs from Sherwin Williams asks about your fleet hires last year. Specifically, how difficult was it for your fleet to find and hire qualified employees? Also, was your hiring situation in 2022 better or worse than 2021? Take the poll here.
When it comes to hot trends and burning questions, there’s plenty going on in the world of fleet — that’s why we’ve created The Fleet Poll (which gets updated every two weeks) to gauge industry sentiment around key topics dominating the fleet landscape.

New York City will add Electric Transit Vans and Pick-Up Trucks for Agencies Citywide, and Electric Refuse Trucks and Hybrid Plug-In Street Sweepers for DSNY
New Investments in Electric Vehicle Fleet Made Possible by $10.1 Million in Federal Grant Funding.
“When New Yorkers see cars, trucks, and vans with the ‘NYC’ logo on the side, they can rest assured that those vehicles are contributing to a greener city,” said Mayor Eric Adams. “We are already ahead of schedule in transitioning city vehicles away from fossil fuels, and this new grant will allow us to take nearly 1,000 fossil-fuel vehicles off our roads, helping us reduce carbon emissions, make our air cleaner, and save on fuel costs.”

Sales into large fleets, not including sales into dealer and manufacturer fleets, increased 3.0% month over month in December to 165,809 units, according to an early estimate from Cox Automotive.
Combined sales into large rental, commercial, and government fleets were up 47% year over year in December, the sixth consecutive month of double-digit, year-over-year increases. Sales into rental fleets were up 100%, while sales into commercial fleets were up 29% year over year and government fleets were up nearly 13%.
Fleet sales are expected to improve in 2023 and contribute to modest growth in new-vehicle sales.

By Bill Bishop, Senior Vice President, Sales and Marketing, FLD Remarketing
At the beginning of 2021 and 2022, I was privileged to write a year end/year ahead article for the folks at Fleet Management Weekly.
It’s also something we do for our own customers, partners and associates by producing and distributing our free White Metal Market Report, a look at the medium duty wholesale market that we publish each and every quarter.
Looking back on the predictions I made – and measuring them against the reality of what actually occurred – I would offer that I wasn’t far off in identifying what would become some of the most important trends that would follow.
And now, as we kick off another year, I’m ready to take a look back at 2022, and offer some thoughts on what I believe the fleet industry will experience in 2023.

Wow! It’s hard to believe we’re coming up on another year since the inaugural Fleet Success Summit was held in Mesa, AZ!
However, I’m really looking forward to our second event, March 21-22, 2023, at the Luxor Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas!
This year, the slogan of “What happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas” will be violated as attendees will take back some priceless fleet management gems and best practices to significantly improve their operations.

At the COP27 global climate summit in Egypt this past November, leaders from around the world gathered to discuss how to best accelerate the transition to a zero-carbon economy. Scientists have warned that we have a shrinking window of opportunity to keep global temperature rises from passing 1.5 degrees Celsius over pre-industrial times.
It is past the threshold where the impacts of climate change – including superstorms, floods, wildfires and drought – are expected to become significantly more extreme.
