Stung by a shakeup at General Motor’s operations in the country, the Indian government will be introducing a mandatory recall policy for automakers. India has seen more than 300,000 vehicles being recalled in the past year. Pressure was heightened by GM’s recall of 114,000 Chevrolet Tavera sport-utility vehicles. The recall led to the retirement of GM’s vice president for global engine engineering, and the firing of 10 other employees.
