General Motors says it will broaden the scope of vehicle-to-home (V2H) bidirectional charging capabilities on models built on its Ultium EV platform by the time the 2026 models are ready for market.
GM had previously announced that the 2024 Chevrolet Silverado EV RST will contain the new technology. The expanded rollout will now include the following vehicles, as well:
- 2024 GMC Sierra EV Denali Edition
- 2024 Chevrolet Blazer EV
- 2024 Chevrolet Equinox EV
- 2024 Cadillac LYRIQ
- Upcoming Cadillac ESCALADE IQ
Continuing GM Energy’s strategy to expand its array of energy management offerings, V2H presents added value for EV buyers, who have the option to deliver power from their vehicle to their home, provided they have outfitted the home with the right equipment.
Consumers will find the technology quite useful in that it can offer an additional method of providing household electricity on those days when demand is at its apex, counterbalancing the prospect of an outage on the home front. GM is hopeful that this will also be another influential component on the road to a 100% electric landscape.
“GM Energy’s growing ecosystem of energy management solutions will help accelerate GM’s vision of an all-electric future by further expanding access to even more benefits that EVs can offer,” said Wade Sheffer, vice president, GM Energy. “By integrating V2H across our entire Ultium-based portfolio, we are making this groundbreaking technology available to more consumers, with benefits that extend well beyond the vehicle itself, and at broader scale than ever before.”
Those GM EV buyers whose vehicles are built on the Ultium platform will have access to compatible Ultium Home components, the corresponding residential V2H technology. The ability to manage the energy transference can then be controlled by the vehicle owner/homeowner via the GM Energy Cloud software platform.
