Natural gas vehicles are taking off with several fleets. Clean Energy Fuels Corp. reported that its customers ordered 70% more natural gas-powered vehicles in the first nine months of 2013 from the same period last year. “Looking back at 2013, the pronounced trend toward natural gas as a transportation fuel is clear,” said Clean Energy CEO Andrew Littlefair.
The natural gas fueling station infrastructure company said experts forecast 2,400 Cummins Westport natural-gas engines will be produced this year, and production will rise to 10,000 in 2014. The numbers are expected to increase by experts as more commercial NGVs come to market along with light-duty cars and trucks from OEMs.
Littlefair said that 2013 also saw a lot of promise in developments for natural-gas use in the rail and maritime industry. Clean Energy will continue to support those segments.
