The Chicago Police Department has ordered 200 “pursuit-rated” hybrid police SUVs from Ford, joining New York and Los Angeles police departments in buying the new Ford Hybrid Police Interceptors.
The vehicles will be delivered to the CPD by April 2020 and deployed on Chicago streets by August.
Chicago police will pay around $56,000 for each hybrid vehicle, though some will cost less. The deal is worth about $9.6 million, said Howard Ludwig, CPD public information officer. The base price for the vehicles without any options for law enforcement agencies starts at $37,000.
