California Governor Gavin Newsom has signed a new bill into law that will make speed cameras legal in the Golden State. This is part of a new pilot program to curb rising road deaths in the coastal state.
The severity of the fines issued is based on the speeding infraction itself. Going 11 – 15 mph over the posted speed limit carries a $50 penalty. This is increased to $100 for going 15 – 25 mph over the speed limit and $200 for exceeding the limit by 25 mph. Astoundingly, Californians can break the speed limit by more than 100 mph and will only be slapped with a $500 fine.
