As fleets with visible signage on their vehicles know, you need to lead by example. Drivers are expected follow safe driving rules if they’re vehicle is essentially a “rolling billboard” for that city, company, or other organization. AmeriFleet Transportation has taken on the challenge of reducing distracted driving by asking its employees to sign an agreement on the company’s policy.
The dangers of distracted driving are well known in fleet management, and the statistics can be staggering. AmeriFleet is no longer tolerating employee texting or talking on a hand-held phone while operating a company vehicle or while using a company-issued cell phone while driving a personal vehicle. This might include answering or making calls and reading or responding to e-mails and text messages.
The company takes its policy seriously, and violations of this policy will lead to suspension and/or termination. Employees are asked to read the policy, and sign a Statement of Acknowledgement and return it to their manager.
