Americans are expected to purchase fewer cars during their lifetimes, according to a study by research firm Polk. On average, that means four fewer new cars by the time the average consumer hits 76 years old, the age Polk says most people are done buying new vehicles. While owning the car for four-to-five years was typical, now it’s more likely to be six-to-eight years.
