General Motors is all-in when it comes to educating the public about the various facets of electric vehicle (EV) ownership. GM is introducing EV Live, a comprehensive one-stop online experience as a means to answer any and all questions, whether about the vehicle itself, what’s involved with charging at home or on the road, as well as a wide range of other relevant topics.
The free immersive Internet platform is aimed at all comers, not just potential customers. GM is betting that if they hasten EV adoption over a broad landscape by enlightening and educating, it will organically lead to sales of their ever-widening portfolio of electrified options, ranging from the more modestly priced Chevrolet Bolt and Equinox to more premium rides like Cadillac and Hummer.
EV Live is more than just a website where you merely read and search for topics of interest. When you visit the site, you enter ‘Live’ studio which features active displays of EVs, chargers for home and public use, and batteries. Also available are EV specialists who can answer questions in real time or even provide virtual tours of electric vehicle technology, sustainability or the ever-evolving myriad of commercial uses.
These same EV specialists can also walk those interested through the entire installation process of a home charger and even recommend qualified installation specialists. Pre-recorded tours and demonstrations will also be available for those who prefer not to interact directly with a live person.
“Addressing common misconceptions about EVs will accelerate widespread EV adoption. We saw a need for accessible, credible and engaging sources of information to empower consumers to adopt EVs and appreciate their many benefits,” said Hoss Hassani, GM Vice-President of EV Ecosystem. “With EV Live, we’re making it easier to learn about the EV experience. Whether you’re curious or skeptical, an experienced owner or brand new to EVs, the experts at EV Live are here to help.”
But EV Live isn’t just concerned with promoting electric vehicle technology among mainstream visitors. It will also be a key resource for GM dealers and employees, as well as fleet and commercial clients, as they ramp up their own knowledge base to meet a rapidly approaching sustainable electric future.
This interactive, immersive platform is not GM’s first foray into vehicle electrification. EV Live is the latest extension of their holistic methodology, which features the Ultium Platform on which their new EVs will be built. Further, and equally as important, GM is dedicating $750 million to build charging infrastructure through its Ultium Charge 360 ecosystem. Here, they are working in conjunction with both Pilot Company and EVgo to install thousands of fast chargers around the U.S., as well as utilizing the GM dealer network to add thousands more level 2 chargers locally.
“GM wants to be the company that puts everyone in an EV, and we understand that vehicles are only part of the equation. We also need accessible and frictionless EV infrastructure and compelling education to make our all-electric future a reality,” said Hassani. “With EV Live, we’re giving everyone the opportunity to confidently navigate the world of EVs.”
