ORTEC and JBF Consulting Unveil 2026 Routing & Scheduling Reality Check Survey Results

Study Finds Integrated Territory and Daily Schedule Planning and Predictive Delivery Estimates are Key Features to Closing the Logistics Satisfaction Gap

ORTEC, a leading global provider of advanced analytics and optimization solutions, and JBF Consulting, a leading logistics strategy advisory and technology integration firm, announced the results of their joint “Routing & Scheduling Reality Check” survey. The study, based on an online survey presented to more than 3,000 supply chain and logistics industry professionals across several industries including retail, wholesale distribution and manufacturing sectors, reveals a logistics landscape that still operates with strategic and technological gaps entering 2026.

The survey found that while 68% of companies currently utilize a routing and scheduling (R&S) solution, there is a significant “satisfaction gap” in the market. Only 10% of respondents reported being “very satisfied” with their current provider, while 46% remain “neutral” and 20% are “dissatisfied”. As companies look toward the next three years, the data shows: nearly 30% of organizations are seeking integrated territory and daily scheduling planning, and 26% are prioritizing predictive delivery time estimates to meet evolving customer demands.

Bridging the Gap with Purpose-Built Optimization
For ORTEC, the survey results underscore a clear opportunity to elevate the industry standard from “functional” to “exceptional.” With nearly half of the market sitting in a “neutral” state of satisfaction, ORTEC is positioned to provide the advanced optimization that current legacy systems lack.

Key takeaways include:

  • Capturing the Satisfaction Gap: ORTEC sees the 46% neutral satisfaction rate as an invitation to provide a higher standard of service. By addressing the 24% of users seeking automated/dynamic route adjustments, ORTEC offers a path from “neutral” to “happy”.
  • Meeting Future Tech Demand: With C-suite (9%) and Director-level (36%) leadership increasingly driving tech adoption, ORTEC is focusing on high-demand capabilities like integrated territory and daily scheduling planning (nearly 30%).
  • The Automation Mandate: A significant 60% of companies are moving toward automated customer delivery updates. ORTEC’s primary focus is on robust, real-time optimization engines that provide this critical visibility without the distraction of secondary products like ELDs.

“The data shows that ‘good enough’ is no longer sufficient for modern fleet operations and logistics providers,” said Aaron Geiger, Managing Director of Enterprise Sales at ORTEC. “With a significant portion of the industry feeling neutral about their current tools, our focus remains on providing a high-satisfaction alternative that moves beyond basic tracking to true, predictive optimization based on proven data and analytics.”

Navigating Market Friction and Vendor Selection
As a leading vendor-agnostic consultancy, JBF Consulting views the survey results as evidence of the inherent friction in implementing and maintaining complex logistics technology. The “Reality Check” identifies significant hurdles that require expert navigation.

Key takeaways include:

  • Proving the Need for Expertise: JBF leans into the fact that 66% of the market is currently neutral or dissatisfied with their Routing & Scheduling solution. They use this friction to help prospects navigate a market where finding the “right fit” is more critical than simply picking a vendor.
  • Removing Barriers to Dynamic Routing: While 45% of operations still rely on static routing, the goal is dynamic flexibility. JBF specializes in overcoming the primary barriers identified in the survey: Cost (35%), Operational Complexity (25%), and Data Issues (23%).
  • Focusing on Core Operational Efficiency: JBF helps warehouse and transportation leaders justify tech investments by focusing on the KPIs that matter most: Fleet utilization (36%), Vehicle uptime (28%), and Route optimization efficiency (21%).

“Our mission is to help clients find the ‘right fit’ in a market where one in five users are actively dissatisfied with their current solution,” said Brad Forester, CEO of JBF Consulting. “By remaining vendor-agnostic, we can help companies navigate these high satisfaction gaps and overcome the resource constraints that prevent them from achieving true operational excellence through systematic implementation of the right processes, people, policy and technology , while helping to plan a long-term strategic roadmap that maximizes their investment.”
