Many fleet managers today are practicing “swivel chair management,” where they toggle between disconnected, siloed solutions – and the process is inefficient and error-prone. The “single pane of glass” approach, on the other hand, offers a unified view and actionable insights.

Recall Masters

By Chris Miller, Recall Masters

It only takes one missed safety recall to create a nightmare scenario for a fleet operator. An accident, a fire, even a fatality. While not all recalls carry the same level of risk, failing to identify and address critical issues can expose your business to severe liability.

Today’s fleets are impacted by a growing number of recalls tied to safety and quality. And when a driver unknowingly operates a vehicle with an open recall, it’s not just their safety at stake. It’s your company’s reputation, operational continuity, and legal exposure.

Without a solid process or a partner to keep track of and manage recall data, the chances of missing a major issue go up. Companies that do this well usually team up with a provider who can handle large-scale VIN tracking and provide real-time recall updates.

Police in 28 States Are Pulling Drivers Over for Breaking the “No Touch” Rule

Pennsylvania passed a “no touch” rule. It’s now the 28th state in which police officers can pull you over just for touching, tapping, or swiping on your cellphone. Even to unlock the device or bring up navigation. Even while stopped at a red light.

States with “no touch” laws specify that drivers can’t touch their cellphones while on a public roadway. Ever. But not every state is this strict.

Montana still has no restrictions on cellphone use while behind the wheel. Other states, such as Ohio, have a “one swipe” rule. So if you accidentally lock your cellphone or need to swipe to change apps, authorities will cut you some slack. But no typing out a text message.

The $250 EV Tax Has No Legal Precedent in Over 200 Years

George Washington’s Carriage Tax of the late 1700s was the nation’s first federal wealth tax. The tax was levied on horse-drawn carriages, which were then considered symbols of extreme wealth.

Taxing American motorists has long been the standard way to raise the cash for fixing America’s roads and highways. Electric vehicles have so far been exempt from such fees. Trump’s budget reconciliation bill proposes a solution: a $250 annual registration fee for EVs and $100 for hybrids

There’s no other consumer product in America that gets taxed like this simply for existing, years after purchase, with no link to usage or value.

Best Cars for College Students

There are many variables to weigh when choosing any car, let alone one for a college student. The process can be overwhelming.

When picking a car, remember that it may also need to continue as the primary mode of transportation after college and into the first few years of building a career. Put a little time into thinking about what that may look like regarding the cost of ownership, commuting needs, and lifestyle.

An affordable payment is a function of a vehicle’s cost. Whether the parents or the student shoulder the monthly installments, those car payments must be kept low.

EVs

By David Piperno, CFO, SparkCharge

The global consumer automotive market has already spoken, reflected in an International Energy Agency report just published in May that predicts a quarter of global car sales will be electric.

The EV sector has been valued at half a trillion dollars in 2023, making it easy to do the math with respect to market opportunity as well as the job creation and business opportunities across the automotive value chain.

States like California have played a constructive role in pushing innovation forward. Rather than limit that role, we should embrace and learn from it.
