Customer Driven

By Elizabeth Wills, Senior Vice President of Client Services, Wheels

Change isn’t just a professional shift—it can feel deeply personal. That’s why leading through it demands more than strategy. It requires empathy, consistency, and a commitment to meeting people where they are.

When people feel seen and supported, they’re more likely to lean in, offer ideas, raise concerns, and bring others along. That kind of energy is contagious—and it keeps momentum moving forward.

“When we support our colleagues through change, we don’t just help them adapt—we empower them to grow, contribute, and lead with resilience.”Author Unknown

Rare Earth Magnet Shortage Threatens Shutdown of U.S. Car Factories

Auto executives across the globe have raised urgent concerns that an impending shortage of rare earth magnets from China used in an extensive number of car parts threatens to upend vehicle production in weeks.

China halted exports of rare earth magnets on April 4 during its trade war with the United States. China controls over 90% of global processing capacity for the magnets used in industries like auto manufacturing, fighter jet production, and home appliances.

The United States makes essentially no high-performance rare earth magnets, but small factories are scheduled to begin production this year in South Carolina and Texas.

Ford, Hyundai Post Higher US Sales in May on Strong SUV, Truck Demand

U.S. auto sales for Ford Motor and South Korea’s Hyundai Motor rose in May, the companies reported on Tuesday,  Concerns over potential tariff-related price hikes prompted buyers to act fast on their purchases of cars and SUVs.

U.S. President Donald Trump’s tariff policies have fueled uncertainty across the auto industry, driving up supply costs, pressuring margins and pushing some automakers to pass the expenses on to consumers.

Ford in April extended discounted rates to its customers that are generally reserved for its workers to keep sales moving, although the automaker also hiked prices on three of its Mexico-made products in May. Hyundai also reported an 8% year-on-year rise in U.S. auto sales to 84,521 vehicles in May.

Tesla is Forced to Remove 64 Superchargers on NJ Turnpike, Musk Claims ‘Corruption’

Tesla is being forced to remove 64 Superchargers at stations along the New Jersey Turnpike as the local authorities have decided to go with another provider. Elon Musk claimed corruption without any evidence.

In 2020, Tesla signed an agreement with the New Jersey Turnpike Authority (NJTA)and built 64 Supercharger stalls at 8 stations along the turnpike.

The agreement has now expired, and instead of renewing it, the authority decided to give an exclusive agreement to Applegreen, which already operates in all service areas on the turnpike. Applegreen will reportedly deploy chargers at all 21 turnpike service stops.

Speed-Limiting Tech Coming for High-Risk Drivers in Washington

Washington is the second U.S. state to approve the use of speed-restricting devices for drivers who have a history of going too fast, though it will be more than three years before the law is enforced.

A law signed by Gov. Bob Ferguson last month will require drivers whose licenses are suspended for reckless driving to get intelligent speed assistance (ISA) devices installed on their cars if they want to drive again right away.

Those drivers will be able to choose either to not drive during their license suspension period or get a special license that will let them drive only if they have the speed-limiting device installed.

Fleet Remarketing

By Richard Mallek, Director of Business Development, FLD Remarketing

Remarketing assets is not always the easiest process, often draining valuable time, money, and resources. This is a tough proposition at a time when everything about fleet seems hard enough as it is.

But what if there was a better way to sell used assets? One where sellers had absolutely zero risk and transactions were fast and easy and could be accomplished in three simple steps.

Well – at FLD – that’s exactly what we do. Instead of forcing sellers to accept a cut of whatever they sell their asset for at auction, we give customers an upfront offer on any used asset and then pay them the full price they agree to in a couple of hours.
