U.S. regulators are warning drivers to steer clear of aftermarket decals used to embellish a car’s logo on the center of its steering wheel.

Such metal or plastic emblems – which are typically adorned with rhinestones or other decorations and attached to the steering wheel with an adhesive back – can cause serious injury if ejected when the airbag deploys in a crash, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said Monday.

“In a crash, the force of a deploying airbag can turn the product into a projectile, resulting in serious injury or death,” the federal agency wrote in a consumer alert.

Based in Essen, Germany, Promwad Engineering Company is offering its EV conversion technology worldwide to meet stricter emission standards that are leading the shift away from gasoline vehicles.

The company recently converted four utility trucks for a German automotive firm. The process involved replacing the combustion engine and transmission with a battery and power electronics modules. Reverse engineering was required to ensure that when the trucks were converted to electric power all functions remained operational.

“Converting municipal transport to electric power sets a great energy example, reduces carbon footprints, and promotes sustainable practices for citizens,” said Ivan Kuten, co-owner and Tech Expert at Promwad.

Electrify America opened its first station in North Dakota this month. It’s an important step to expand the network nationwide along major routes coast-to-coast.

North Dakota had just 1.3 plug-in electric car registrations per thousand people in 2022 – one of the lowest levels in the country and far behind the average of 8.66 in the U.S.

Brandy Mathie, director of site acquisition and portfolio management at Electrify America said: “With our entrance into North Dakota, EV drivers are now able to enjoy hyper-fast charging speeds in 47 states. This is a significant milestone in making EV ownership accessible to all communities.”

Waze announced the launch of crash history alerts, designed to notify you if a road you’re approaching has a history of crashes.

The new feature is powered by proprietary AI technology, which analyzes historical crash data as well as key characteristics of a road, such as its typical traffic levels, the elevation, whether it’s a highway or a local road or if there’s a curve, among other information that deems the route crash-prone.

The AI model also combines reports from the millions of users on Waze. According to the Google-owned navigation app, users report accidents every two seconds.
