A Call to Action: Are You Ready for the July 1st Replacement of The Old Google Analytics? A Call to Action: Are You Ready for the July 1st Replacement of The Old Google Analytics?

By Ed Pierce, FMW Brand Acceleration

Google’s Universal Analytics will be replaced by Google Analytics 4 (GA4) on July 1, 2023. As a result, fleet marketing professionals should familiarize themselves with the new platform as soon as possible.

GA4’s enhanced ability to view user data across all devices gives it a richer data set to build machine-learning models. These models allow marketers to predict the actions of their customers.

Tracking what a customer does today is the best prognosticator of the next action to be taken. as it paints a better picture of their next action than who they are. GA4 can help companies predict customer actions across channels.

Highly Rated EVs

By Dave Bean, FMW Associate Editor

Now that virtually all OEMs have battery electric vehicles (BEVs) on their rosters, those who bought EVs are allowing classic elements such as styling and quality to influence their level of satisfaction with their purchase, according to the J.D. Power 2023 U.S. Electric Vehicle Experience (EVX) Ownership Study.

“The electric vehicle landscape is changing quickly, and newer models are bringing in more mainstream, first-time EV buyers,” said Brent Gruber, executive director of the EV practice at J.D. Power.

In its first year of eligibility, premium EV model Rivian R1T recorded the highest level of owner satisfaction in the study. The MINI Cooper Electric won top ranking in the mass market segment.

Aging State Vehicle Fleet Fuels Tens of Millions in New Money Requests by Agencies

With more than 260,000 square miles of ground to cover in Texas, agencies say using state vehicles is typically cheaper, safer and more reliable than rentals or mileage reimbursements for employees — particularly those whose jobs include on-site inspections, working in remote places and conducting statewide investigations.

Many state-owned vehicles are aging past the standards for replacement. Early budget drafts signal that lawmakers are considering funding some $237.6 million in requests for new ones. The average age of the nearly 34,000 vehicles in the state-owned fleet belonging to 100 agencies, colleges and universities is about 10 years, according to the Texas comptroller’s office.

New Projection: U.S. Pedestrian Deaths Rise Yet Again in First Half of 2022

Drivers in the United States struck and killed 3,434 people in the first half of 2022 – up 5%, or 168 more deaths, from the same period the year before, according to a new analysis from the Governors Highway Safety Association (GHSA).

Why are more people walking dying on U.S. roads?

A combination of factors, including a surge in dangerous driving that began at the start of the pandemic and has not lessened; larger, heavier vehicles that are more likely to seriously injure or kill people on foot in the event of a crash; roads designed to prioritize fast-moving traffic over slower speeds that are safer for pedestrians; and inadequate infrastructure such as sidewalks, crosswalks and lighting in many parts of the country.

IIHS Crash Tests

By Dave Bean, FMW Associate Editor

According to a new Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) study, operating a vehicle that does well in its driver-side small overlap front crash test decreases your chance of becoming a road fatality statistic.

A driver behind the wheel of a poorly rated vehicle is 12 percent more likely to die in a front end collision than a driver whose vehicle rated ‘good’.

“The numbers confirm that strong performance in the Institute’s small overlap front crash test translates into big reductions in fatality risk,” said Eric Teoh, director of statistical services at IIHS and one of the study’s authors.
