The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety conducted side impact crash tests for car versus sport utility vehicle, light trucks and passenger cars. Ten of 13 midsize cars tested received the lowest of four possible ratings, indicating a likely serious or fatal injury. The tests showed women at a disproportionate risk in truck-car side-impact collisions.
