Donlen’s DriverPoint Telematics to Incorporate Data Provided by OnStar to Help Improve Fleet Productivity and Efficiency

Donlen’s DriverPoint telematics solution can now integrate data provided by OnStar, General Motors’ embedded vehicle connectivity platform.

With this new integration, driver behavior information, vehicle location and diagnostic data can be sent directly from OnStar-equipped and activated Chevrolet, Buick, GMC and Cadillac vehicles to the DriverPoint platform, after first obtaining appropriate driver notice and consent.

This allows fleet professionals to take full advantage of DriverPoint’s safety, monitoring and savings without spending time installing and managing aftermarket telematics devices.

“Fleet managers want improved productivity without headaches and to keep people safe on the road,” said Brian Hoglund, OnStar Commercial Experiences director for GM. “With DriverPoint and OnStar, you don’t have to install additional hardware to start receiving telematics insights, and there are many more integration opportunities with other technologies and services.”

“By integrating data provided by OnStar into our fleet management platform, we’re providing access to insights our customers need for internal policy improvements, driver coaching and training, and enhanced driver safety, as well as helping them reduce driver tampering because the hardware is embedded,” said Tom Sloan, director of telematics and safety products at Donlen. “This data is fed directly into our proprietary FleetWeb platform through DriverPoint, fully integrating the OnStar telematics capabilities with the rest of Donlen’s fleet programs.”

USIC, an underground utility company with an 8,000+ vehicle fleet, is the first Donlen customer to use DriverPoint with OnStar integration to improve driver safety and monitor vehicle location at all times.

“Our vehicles are located from the West Coast to the East Coast and it’s a challenge to manage all of the device installs and maintenance since our vehicles are not in one location. But with OnStar providing data directly to DriverPoint, we’ve been able to overcome that challenge while receiving the quality data our fleet needs,” said Phil Samuelson, fleet and capital asset manager at USIC. “We are very impressed by the way Donlen and GM worked together to offer us a solution that allows us to spend less time managing devices and more time focusing on driver safety.”
