Sophisticated technology is a theme in a number of our articles in this week’s issue. In CEI’s monthly column On Accident Management, we discover why collision repair costs are rising so quickly – a major contributor: hi-tech auto parts. In our interview with Simon Marsh, managing director at UK’s VisionTrack, we are introduced to their cutting-edge 3G telematics camera, which is capable of transmitting a ten-second clip of a road incident using only 350kB of data and reporting information on speeds, location and G-force. Impressive.
Now for the dark side of technology. Reporting on cybersecurity, Mike Sheldrick says that it’s becoming increasingly clear that automakers have yet to get a handle on fully protecting their products from hackers. Cybersecurity is going to get a great deal more attention and as major stakeholders, fleets are going to have an increasingly significant voice in this conversation.
