Motiv is honored to have their CEO and Founder, Jim Castelaz, featured in Silicon Valley Business Journal: 40 under 40.
As CEO, Jim holds the vision for the future of electronic trucks and drives the strategic and technical direction of Motiv. Fueled by a passion for the environment and a curiosity for EV, eight years ago he got to work on a solution to free commercial fleets from their dependency on fossil fuels.
Motiv’s All-Electric Powertrain couples the best of advanced power electronics and software with off-the-shelf batteries and components. With this approach, the All-Electric Powertrain can fit on popular existing chassis types, work with any present or future battery and motor, scale up and down to fit any truck or bus size, and empower existing truck builders to offer electric options of their current vehicles.
Jim has led Motiv to achieve six patents for systems and methods around managing a power system with multiple power components, load testing multiple power converters without dedicated test equipment, and balancing charge within a battery pack. The company has five patents pending covering electric vehicle power system innovations.
Jim believes in the future of electric. Before Motiv, Jim was a Chief Architect at an EV start-up focused on designing electric buses for the Chinese Market. His other projects included developing an electric motorcycle, solid state transformers for the power distribution grid with Southern California Edison, and various other embedded systems.
